tie half windsor knot step 1 1. Start with wide end of necktie extending approximately a foot longer than narrow end. Cross wide end over narrow end. The actual extension will depend on your height and your neck sze. After the necktie knot has been done, the wide end should cover the shirt. The narrow end behind wide end and therefore it is not that important.
